A Brief History of the Best Miami Heat Fan Site

The 2nd Home of the MiamiHeatzone

MiamiHeatwave.com was conceived of back in 2003 as a Heat fan, stranded in Tallahassee with no TV or media coverage of the Heat, was trying to find a way to follow his home town NBA franchise. Jonnylons, as he is now known, decided to give a shot at creating his own website, and began to do so simply as a message board back in 2004. See the original MiamiHeatzone here.

Later, in 2004, MiamiHeatzone was growing as news got out about the small Heat fan message boards. Envisioning a bigger project, Jonnylons created MiamiHeatwave and started to build the site from that newer identity.

MiamiHeatwave grew – quite literally – out of the original confines of MiamiHeatzone. A new message board was established and the layout was played around with. See an example of the original MiamiHeatwave boards here.

Sensing a stronger need for more features on the boards, and needing a way to control the complex features of the site, MiamiHeatwave was moved to Invision Power Boards’ platform in 2005. All the posts were brought over, preserving several years of posts along the way.

Ever since, MiamiHeatwave has been expanding its site with new features for its members and fellow Heat fans scrawling across the internet. We have built a blog that is currently linked on both the Miami Herald as well as the Sports Illustrated Heat page. We added a wiki to allow for Heat fans and Heatwave members to document their favorite Heat moments and players.

We invite you to get involved in the on-going development of MiamiHeatwave.com and help us build a site that truly represents our Miami Heat, the city, and the NBA.
