Jamario Moon Offered a Deal With Cavs; Heat Betting on Odom
The Cleveland Plain Dealer is reporting that the Cavs have offered a deal to Jamario Moon. The restricted free agent could be retained by the Heat if they match the offer within the next 7 days.
The Heat, however, may have other plans and the Cavs are counting on this.
While the Heat sit tight and wait for Lamar Odom to make his decision – some suspect that decision will be coming this week – the Cavs are hoping that the Heat will let Jamario Moon leave town. The deal is for two years and could be as much as $3.2 million per season, using the remaining portion of their mid level exception to sign Moon. The offer is expected to be in the $2 M range.
Moon was a part of the deal that brought Jermaine O’neal over from Toronto for Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks.
The move is expected to not be matched by the Heat as they are trying to keep as much space on the books as possible for next offseason when big named players will be available. They are also only $90,000 short of the luxury cap, which means signing Moon will put them in that dollar for dollar matching scenario which Riley has stated he wanted to avoid.
As for Lamar Odom, the LA media continues to push propoganda stating how great his situation is in LA and how a deal with Miami will never add up. They are correct in that the Heat cannot offer the same raw numbers, but without state income tax and a much lower cost of living, what is the comparison exactly? Stay tuned.
