He fans should be salivating at this opportunity – if it is indeed an opportunity.
Several years ago, Pat Riley stepped down as coach – for the first time. In that offseason, he decided to roll the dice a bit. He attempted to sign restricted free agent Elton Brand – but the Clippers matched. They had another restricted free agent but couldn’t possibly match an offer – which the Heat made to Lamar Odom. Some would ponder that Riley’s true target was Lamar Odom.
Odom came to Miami and joined a young team with new head coach, Stan Van Gundy. The core of that team was Odom, Rafer Alston, Caron Butler and Dwyane Wade. They made a strong run to close out the final half of the 2003-2004 season and scared the Pacers in the 2nd round that season.

A lot has changed since that young team debuted in 2003-2004. Odom has become a champion with the Lakers, arguably their most crucial piece. Dwyane Wade also became a champion – and the Finals MVP in that 2006 run. Imagine if they reunited?
There is talk about Allen Iverson signing a one year deal with Miami. Lamar Odom, however, wants a 5 year deal and is dragging his heals on a possible re-signing with the Lakers. It has been rumored that Pat Riley, once again, has come a-calling.
If the Heat could sign Odom to one year deal, or something that may keep the Heat in sight of making huge moves next offseason, don’t rule out the possibility. Odom loved his time in Miami and may be thinking about coming back.

[...] and a bunch of hungry kids, than he would be by joining the other codgers on the Dallas Mavericks. And I think Odom makes Miami a better team than Carlos Boozer [...]
[...] The Lamar Odom thing we broke is real. Right now, the Heat have made an offer and Odom is taking this weekend to ponder it. Just check out ESPN’s take on this. Apparently, there were two offers on the table for Odom from the Lakers – a 3 year deal worth $10M per season, and a 4 year deal worth $36M. One of the concerns fo the Odom camp is that they want a deal extending beyond 3 years. With Florida’s lack of income tax, and the mid level exception available to the Heat, they could favorably match a package that the Lakers are currently offering – about $34M for a 5 year deal. [...]
