Heat DLeague Affiliate Moved to Albuquerque

June 22, 2008 · Filed Under Uncategorized

I still have a hard time typing Albuquerque, despite the fact that the Marlins’ AAA affiliate is stationed there as well. Now it looks like the Heat and the Marlins will have something else in common.

The NBA announced that the Heat’s D League affiliation will be moved from the Iowa Energy franchise to the Albuquerque Thunderbirds franchise. So, a bit further out west than initially planned when the D League began a few years back with the Heat’s affiliate being in Fort Myers at the time. Then, it was moved to Iowa and now in Albuquerque. Looks like the NBA is using the D League to market their NBA franchises as well, shuffling them city to city each year and each D League affiliate associated with up to 4 NBA franchises.

Discuss the Heat’s D League activities here.
