Miami Heat Draft Trade Rumors

Let’s face it, can’t have a draft without a rough draft. The Heat have plenty of those being tossed around behind closed doors, but also the various media outlets and bloggers have been doing the same (yes, I detect the irony here!).

The Heat have to explore every option, even if some of them are just ridiculous. First, let’s start with the Wade trade rumors.

The Dwyane Wade Trade

One scenario has the Heat trading Wade to the Bulls for the #1 overall pick. There is one possibility suggested of trading Wade to the Bulls which is just flat-out stupid. Then there is a more sane possibility which would be Wade to the Bulls for the 1st pick overall and Kirk Hinrich (which wouldn’t make sense to draft Rose and have Hinrich, although that would make a very deep bench).

This does bring up a question though about Wade’s health. Is Miami willing to jettison its franchise’s face because of fear of injury? Erick Spoelstra is the new head coach and winning, at least right away, is not expected. With the hiring of Dave Fizdale, there is anticipation that the Heat will be doing a lot more teaching than coaching, too. In this scenario, the Heat would add Michael Beasley and Derrick Rose and have a very young nucleus to build around – possibly even having the option of trading out Shawn Marion for another young piece. This has to be by far the most intriguing and gutsy scenario of any.

The Udonis Haslem Undertaking

Udonis HaslemAnother strong part of the Miami Heat identity, there are scenarios formulating that anticipate the Heat trading its captain for missing pieces. The biggest need? According to most a point guard (although I contend the need for a PG on the Heat is overblown). Haslem could be traded for a player that is available, such as the Bulls’ Hinrich, the Raptors’ TJ Ford, or even Mo Williams whom the Heat tried to lure away from the Bucks’ last offseason. There is also the Memphis situation which has Javaris Crittenton, Juan Carlos Navarro and Kyle Lowery all sharing minutes. Something could play out there.

Yet, keeping Haslem along with adding Beasley would bolster the Heat’s front court depth and along with Shawn Marion gives them a front court that could rival any in the league.

The Shawn Marion Move

Marion has one year left on his contract, but it is a player option. This gives him a lot of leverage – he could opt out and look to sign elsewhere, but most likely won’t sign for $17 million. Or he could keep the $17 million on the table and find out where next after the season.

Or he could be used in a trade, keep his $17M and end up somewhere else.

This third option will lead to many intriguing scenarios like a Dallas-Miami trade. Marion played with Kidd when he first entered the league and this situation would make sense as both Marion and Kidd would benefit from playing with each other. For the Heat, getting back a Josh Howard would make sense as he is younger and would fit in splendidly at the SF slot.

Self-proclaimed #1 Heat fan. Founded MiamiHeatwave.com back in 2004 when I couldn't follow the Heat living in Tallahassee. Found lots of fellow "Heatians" online and it has never been the same since. Loving this new Heat team with the Triumvirate. Pat Riley has always been, and will now forever be, my idol.

Trading Marion a character guy for Josh Howard would be stupid!!!! Marion has proven that he is a great defender, rebouder and decent scorer. Josh Howard has pecked and is not going to get any better he’s a good player but he’s no Shawn Marion who fills up a stat sheet. Miami should hope Shawn opts out and resigns with them for the long haul. Marion and Wade will be great together..

I have to agree with you. Marion fills up the stat sheets and always has a very tangible effect on the game in that regard. Plus, he can defend all 5 positions on the floor. With Beasley, Zo and Joel Anthony – that is going to be a LOT of blocked shots, too which will bail out the perimeter defenders. Like Wade who still has not shown me that he is meeting his expectation level defensively.

But Howard is a pretty good perimeter defender and more of a SF. With Beasley, you would have two very athletic, good defenders out there. The thing is, we would get Howard AND something else…maybe another draft pick or another player.
